Dominique & Thomas’s Sunrise Elopement in Boulder, CO

Sunrise Lost Gulch Elopement in Boulder Colorado

Sunrise. The Magical hour for all photo sessions and elopements in the state of Colorado. You might ask why I say this… And it’s truly because that hour as the sun is coming up has some of the most beautiful light. Also has the least amount of people at all the popular Colorado locations… you know like this Lost Gulch Elopement 😉 At Sunrise you can literally hike up the most popular trails in the state and usually be one of the only ones present. Its pretty amazing. This Boulder Elopement was gorgeous at sunrise.

Lost Gulch Elopement Sunrise vs Sunset

When I first started chatting with Dominique about their Sunrise wedding, I actually found out that this wasn’t their first choice for timing. They originally were set to have a summer wedding at sunset here. But covid caused things to change. And the only time slot left for this Lost Gulch Elopement. She was so worried as she couldn’t find vendors who wanted to get up this early. WHAT?! This is the best time and I was SO stoked to capture this early morning elopement for them.

I definitely think this was all a blessing in disguise. They easily avoided crazy summer crowds by moving their Lost Gulch Elopement. They were the only ones at lost Gulch and had the entire location to themselves. Plus the weather was GORGEOUS. It was a win win! As time goes on, I realize just how much busier Colorado locations are getting. Flooded with tourists from all over. Which is great that people want to experience Colorado. But the spots just seem to get more and more crowded. So sunrise is usually a better option. Here is a throwback to a LOST GULCH SESSION from about 3 years ago. When sunsets weren’t quite so crazy!

Pro Tip:

I often get asked about popping champagne bottles at elopements. We did a champagne pop at this Lost Gulch Elopement. One of the main things I tell people is to make sure when popping their bottle to KEEP THE CORK! You don’t want it flying somewhere and not knowing where it is. It isn’t something you should leave behind. Ever. So my tip is to pop the bottle (without shaking it), keep the cork, and THEN put your thumbs over the top and shake away! It will still make an epic champagne shower after its already uncorked. Plus its just a fun ending to any Elopement!

  1. Sunrise really is the best time for an elopement and these photos show that! I am obsessed with the epic landscapes surrounding this couple as they promised to spend the rest of their lives together. So beautiful and so special that they have these photos as keepsakes to remember their special day!

  2. These two look like they were made for each other and you captured their love, their personalities and their moments perfectly. Nailed it!
