Fall Colorado Engagement Session

Erika & Greg

Can I just say that these two are the freeking cutest. The energy between the two of them was just amazing. Their dog Copper was also the sweetest most well trained dog I think I have ever worked with. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE fall Colorado engagement sessions with all the pups. Actually, I love sessions with all animals. (Did you know I had the pleasure last year of shooting an engagement session with a couple and their horse?! Yeah it was pretty amazing. You can see it here!) But man, Copper was just the sweetest and so well behaved.

I’m tellin yah.. Put a gorgeous couple and their cute dog in the mountains for a gorgeous Fall Colorado Engagement Session and it makes for some really great photos.

Planning for Fall Colors

When I first started chatting with Erika about their Fall Colorado engagement session in the mountains, we aimed for two things… Beautiful fall colors and somewhere that was dog-friendly. Finding a place that is dog friendly in the mountains is fairly simple. The hard part is trying to plan for fall colors. You can’t. I will be fully honest with all of you planning for a gorgeous fall-color engagement session or wedding… You cannot plan for fall colors in Colorado. You can only hope for the best. For this particular session it just so happened that all the stars and planets aligned for us and it was flippin perfect.

Guanella Pass Engagement Session

We originally had planned to shoot up in Vail up on shrine pass. Shrine is beautiful, and would have been a great spot for this fall Colorado engagement session. But when it comes to fall colors in the mountains you sometimes have to make some last minute changes. The color just wasn’t happening up on shrine so less than 48 hours before their session we made the last minute change to hop on over to Guanella Pass. It was absolutely magical. The trees were at their peak and being a Monday, there were minimal crowds. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Guanella Pass, Click here for info on this amazing scenic byway.

You guys… If you are planning an engagement session during peak fall colors, I highly suggest you take the day off work and only plan for a weekday. It makes it so much easier when there aren’t crazy amounts of crowds. When it comes to my sessions, weekdays in popular areas are all that I offer. I promise you the crowds will be a thousand percent better on a weekday. Just check out how perfect this one was…
